There are big changes coming to the American gambling industry. Lately, more and more States have been making the push to add or expand their online gambling offerings. Here is a quick overview of where – and what – you can bet online in the U.S.

Colorado

Colorado embraced online sports betting in May 2020. The new legislation passed by a narrow margin, but casinos operating within the State are now allowed to open both online and retail sportsbooks. There are currently no plans for online casinos or online poker.

Delaware

It may seem surprising, but Delaware was one of the earliest adopters of online gambling. Online casinos, online poker rooms and online sports betting all operate within the State.

Illinois

Sports betting became legal in Illinois in June 2019, and the first retail sportsbook opened in March 2020. In June 2020, Rivers Casino launched the first online sportsbook in the State. There are currently no plans for online casinos or online poker rooms.

Indiana

Online sports betting made its debut in Indiana in October 2019. However, there is currently no plan for online casinos or online poker rooms to open in the Hoosier State.

Iowa

Iowa also recently debuted its online sports betting options. When the legislation was written, it said players would need to download a mobile app first, and then complete their registration in person at the partnering casino.

Michigan

At the end of 2019, Michigan’s Governor signed legislation to legalize online sports betting, online casinos and online poker rooms. Online sports betting is forecasted as early as October 2020.

Montana

In March 2020, the Big Sky State embraced online sports betting, though mobile wagering is restricted to within the walls of authorized businesses. There are currently no plans for online casinos or online poker rooms.

Nevada

Almost everything gaming-related is available in the Silver State. In fact, land-based casinos in Nevada offer more games than the other 49 states combined. When it comes to online options, both online poker and online sports betting are available.

New Hampshire

Online sports betting made its debut in New Hampshire in December 2019. However, there is currently no plan for online casinos or online poker rooms to open in the Granite State.

New Jersey

New Jersey has adopted multiple online options when it comes to gambling. Actually, it is the largest market for regulated online gambling in the U.S. Currently, there are licensed online casinos, online poker rooms and online sportsbooks operating in New Jersey.

Oregon

Online sports betting was incorporated into Oregon very early in the game. However, there is currently no plan for online casinos or online poker rooms to open in the Beaver State.

Pennsylvania

Online casinos launched in the Keystone State in 2019. A handful of Pennsylvania’s land-based casinos already have their online casinos up and running. Plus, online sportsbooks are live and players have the choice to place bets in person or via the internet.

Rhode Island

Online sports betting has already made its debut in Rhode Island. However, there is currently no plan for online casinos or online poker rooms to open in the Ocean State.

West Virginia

West Virginia is an emerging market when it comes to online gambling. Recent legislation allows for the opening of online sports betting, online casinos and online poker rooms in 2020.
